PTA offering 92% subsidy to telecom operators in Balochistan

Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr Muhammad Yaseen has informed that the authority is laying optical fibre cables in Balochistan, and offering 92 per cent subsidy to telecom operators.

Speaking at a meeting with the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications – which expressed concern over the delay in providing communication facilities in rural areas – Yaseen said that despite the incentives, companies were reluctant to invest due to high operational costs.

INTRACOM TELECOM to supply WiBAS systems to PTCL

Press Release: INTRACOM TELECOM, a part of SITRONICS, announced the signing of a contract with PTCL, Pakistan's largest telecommunication carrier and subsidiary of Etisalat, the leading operator in the Middle East, to supply its point-to-multipoint WiBAS systems covering, in this initial phase, Lahore, the second largest city in Pakistan. This is a result of the company's growing cooperation with PTCL, following the supply of its point-to-point microwave platform INTRALINK which was signed in 2010.

Under this agreement, INTRACOM TELECOM's WiBAS system will enable PTCL to provide broadband corporate wireless access services to its business customers in Lahore, Pakistan. WiBAS is optimized for applications requiring high availability and high capacity on demand using Adaptive Coding and Modulation (up to 256 QAM), statistical multiplexing and dynamic bandwidth allocation. The system concurrently backhauls 2G and 3G traffic resulting in additional CapEx and OpEx savings for the operator through the re-use of the same system of both applications. WiBAS efficiently utilizizes the point-to-multipoint network architecture providing the highest capacity available in the market today. Govt. likely to get $800m PTCL arrears from Etisalat

News Published in Daily Times: The contentious issue of transfer of properties to the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has been amicably resolved and the government is hopeful to receive the remaining amount of $800 million within this fiscal year from UAE based Etisalat, official sources informed Daily Times on Wednesday.

An official source at the Ministry of Finance informed that the remaining issues between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) based Etisalat, which clinched PTCL by giving a winning bid of $2.6 billion for a 26 percent stake along with management control in 2005 was finally settled. Sindh government, he said, had transferred the remaining properties in the name of PTCL.
