PTCL expanding network of its bill collection points

Press Release: To facilitate its customers Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has further expanded the network of its bill collection points.

To this end PTCL has collaborated with Ufone to ensure that all PTCL customers can now also avail the facility to pay their PTCL bills at any Ufone outlets including Ufone franchise, UShop and Service Centers.

Hamid Farooq, SEVP – Business Development PTCL said that this arrangement has been done to further facilitate all PTCL customers of Fixed line, Broadband and EVO for payment of their monthly bills. Pak Telecom import declines by 3.2 % due to duties on Mobile Phones

APP: Telecom imports of country are showing negative trend and declined about 3.2% in quarter ending Dec 2010, mainly due to decline in cellular mobile handsets.

However, the other equipments imports increased in the same quarter by about 11.3%, according to a report issued by Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA).

PTCL Announces 6 Lack Broadband Customers in 1,000 Cities

PTA has initiated intelligent blocking from May 18th 2011

In a comprehensive effort to register the SIMs against CNICs of the actual users, PTA has initiated intelligent blocking from May 18th 2011 where 0.875 million left over targeted mobile connections has been blocked as a first batch.

The process of intelligent blocking shall be completed in four weeks where same number of mobile connections i.e. 0.875 million shall be blocked on weekly basis thus bringing total no of SIMs to 3.5 million.

During the intelligent blocking a particular SIM/connection shall only be allowed to call 789 for re-verification of user’s antecedents.

PTA blocked 875,000 unverified SIMs - More to be, if not Verified

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked as many as 875,000 mobile SIMs in connection with unverified mobile connections on Wednesday.

The authority has already blocked 16.2 million unregistered and unverified SIMs and mobile connections during Phase-I and Phase-II of SIM Information System-668, said a press release of PTA here on Wednesday.

After the completion of Phase-I and Phase-II only 16.78 million connections out of 105 million were left over to re-verify their antecedents.

SIM verification or harassment? - DAWN

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s attempt to deal with unregistered and unverified SIMs is headed for a failure as only a ‘few’ subscribers are getting their numbers verified with their respective operators.

The PTA had directed cellular mobile operators to verify SIMs of their subscribers by May 17, after Interior Minister Rehman Malik expressed concern over an increase in the use of unregistered SIMs (May 6).

According to an insider in the telecom industry, an insignificant number of subscribers have got numbers verified through SIM information system 668 since the authority’s directives to the effect.

Government has planned to establish Information Technology (IT) campuses at district level across the country, said Senate Chairman Farooq H Naek here on Monday.

“Prime minister has given approval in principle to set up IT campuses all over the country,” he said while addressing the 2nd Convocation of Virtual University of Pakistan here after conferring degrees to the passed out students.

“Virtual University is expected to play a significant role in this important nation-building exercise,” he maintained.
