42 percent Smartphone users click on mobile ads

According to a survey result smartphone users are unusually responsive to advertising.

Forty-two percent of users click on mobile ads they like. Of those, 49 percent go on to make a purchase, while 35 percent visit the advertiser s site, and 27 percent call the business in question. The results also claim that 82 percent of smartphone users "notice mobile ads." Nine out of 10 users have taken action based on the results of a smartphone search. Smartphone Web searches are weighted towards the user s locality: 95 percent of people look for local information on a smartphone.

3.8 million SIM activation requests rejected by PTA

Around 3.8 million SIM activation requests have so far been rejected on the basis of incorrect information and new SIMs are activated only after identification of legitimate users by asking secret questions.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked mobile phone users to confirm registration of their SIMs in their own names by using SMS service.

For this purpose, PTA has introduced two SMS services like 667 and 668 for this purpose. A subscriber can send a blank SMS from his number on 667 and he would receive a SMS carrying the information (name and CNIC) about the owner of the SIM.

IBM aims to increase customers in Pakistan

International Business Machines (IBM) aims to increase its customers in Pakistan by offering a range of information technology (IT) services, which include identifying a business problem to implementation of the solution, a top company official said on Thursday.

Ufone, Mobilink ink tower sharing agreement

Mobilink Pakistan’s largest cellular service provider and a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH), and Ufone, have signed an accord for tower sharing, setting an example of unique collaboration.

The agreement was signed between Rashid Khan, President and CEO of Mobilink, and Abdul Aziz, President and CEO of Ufone at the Mobilink House.

This collaborative effort is in line with the initiatives taken by the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) and the federal government to encourage cellular providers to drive greater efficiencies while reducing the carbon footprint.

Govt. to establish Pakistan Technology Council for B.Tech graduates

More than 50,000 B.Tech graduates, after years-long struggle, received a green signal from National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology to establish a separate Pakistan Technology Council (PTC) for registering them and safeguarding their interests and rights. B.Tech graduates have been deprived of access to higher studies, job opportunities in public departments and promotions due to undefined status of their degree and it was their longstanding demand to establish PTC.

Talking to APP, Chairman Pakistan Council of Technologists, Sheikh Javed said that after strenuous efforts of B.Tech community, Chairman NA Standing Committee on Science and Technology Dr. Abdul Qadir Khanzada in a meeting with Pakistan Council of Technologists (PCT) announced to establish the PTC.

About 5000 Mobile Phones Blocked in Karachi

About 5000 mobile phones which have similar IMEI numbers were sealed by all mobile companies in Karachi, lastnight.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik has ordered all the mobile service providers block all SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards and mobile phones that have similar IMEI numbers.

He said that mobile phones issued without names on fake ID cards will be closed within 15 days.

PTCL to offer 50 Mbps Bandwidth via VDSL2 Bonding technology

Telenor Pakistan said, in an advertisement published in news papers, that they will charge helpline calls at Rs. 2 excluding taxes, from April 09, 2011.

These Rs. 2 + Tax charges would be in addition to IVR charges of Rs. 0.25 + Tax.

If you dial 345, you will be charged 25 paisas + Tax straight away. If you connect to Customer Representative Officer, you will be charged Rs. 2 (excluding taxes) plus the IVR charges, which are 25 paisas + Tax.
